As an incantation whispered between the twigs of a sleeping forest, Seren returns with their fourth chapter, a work that blooms in silence and dissolves in shadow.

The balance between rawness and atmospheric black that has defined Seren's previous record is once again upheld, though now refined. The first two compositions, "Hearts of the Tundra" and "Blood Across the Snow" brim with the familiar frostbitten grit of black metal, yet are laced with soft spectral filigree from synthesisers looming in the background as lost winds through splintered treetops.

There is a perception that the music has been exhumed rather than composed, unearthed from roots entwined in sorrow. Guitars churn like frozen rivers breaking free, ghastly vocals drift in and out like apparitions below the instrumental chaos, and the synthesisers, especially in the closing piece, take full reign. Here, Seren steps fully into the realm of dark ambient, with dungeon synth textures flickering like torchlight upon ancient bark.

"Soul of the Pine" feels as a communion with the sentient forest, an elegy offered at the altar of earthbound spirits. It is less a statement of grief and more a gesture of listening, to the memory of snow, to the hush of dusk, to the roots that remember.
