Scott McKenzie - San Francisco (Be Sure to Wear Flowers in Your Hair)

Описание к видео Scott McKenzie - San Francisco (Be Sure to Wear Flowers in Your Hair)

1967, the Summer of Love. Monterey, California. Legend has it that John Phillips and Lou Adler didn't want to be misunderstood, and they wanted no fighting or riots. So, John wrote this song and gave it to his buddy Scott McKenzie to sing with his usual gang of backup musicians that he used for The Mamas & The Papas in the height of their popularity. The song spoke of love and peace, and that's exactly what happened. Plus a ton of incredible music from the likes of Simon & Garfunkel, Janis Joplin, Jefferson Airplane, Otis Redding, The Who, Jimi Hendrix, The Mamas & The Papas and Scott McKenzie - In that order. And pretty much in the order that you see them in this video. Plus some gentle people with flowers in their hair. By the way, this was back in the days when the whole country was listening to (and buying records of) the same songs at the same time. So, that's how he knew he could get a message out to the whole country—by writing a top 40 hit record. You couldn't do that today, not in the same way. Not that there's anything wrong with the music business of today or the music of today. But it's different now. The song went straight up the charts and reached #4 in the USA and #1 in England. The whole younger generation had heard it, before the festival. The Monterey International Pop Festival of 1967. What a blast!
