How to look at early stage tech investments. With a surge of tech-stocks listing, we took the opportunity to speak with Rui Rodrigues of Tankstream Ventures to understand how he thinks about investing in the space. Rui says it's an art and a science, saying investors need to understand the technology, the metrics and how humans behave within a market. We like to see a strong user adoption. Ideally with customers paying for the service. We like to see how often the users use the product. How engaged they are. What they do with it. What value they're obtaining. I think this is incredibly important, sometimes even more important than the initial user numbers. It's always better at a relatively early stage to have a smaller number of customers who are using your product in a very intensive way. In this video Rui discusses one of their portfolio holdings, Spring.me, a social media site that's rapidly grown to 5 million visitors in just 12 months. The company is set to list on the ASX in the coming weeks (ASX:SNS).
