Viry-Châtillon est une commune française située à vingt-et-un kilomètres au sud de Paris dans le département de l’Essonne en région Île-de-France.

Des domaines partagés transmis entre d’illustres familles, Viry-sur-Orge, le bourg agricole situé sur la route de Paris à Fontainebleau et Châtillon-sur-Seine, village au bord du fleuve fusionnèrent en 1790. Doté au xixe siècle de la Gare de Viry-Châtillon sur la nouvelle ligne de Villeneuve-Saint-Georges à Montargis, la commune accueillit en 1909 le premier aérodrome organisé du monde. S’il ne perdura pas au-delà de la Première Guerre mondiale, il permit la renommée de la commune, qui connut par ailleurs dès les années 1920 un développement démographique important avec le lotissement de la plaine alluviale, porté par l’axe majeur que constituait la route nationale 7. Ce développement se poursuivit dans les années 1960 avec la construction des grands ensembles de La Grande Borne, des Coteaux de l’Orge et de la Cilof en bordure de la récente autoroute A6. La commune est aujourd’hui connue pour accueillir le département moteurs de l’écurie de course automobile Renault Sport.

Viry-Châtillon is a French commune located twenty-one kilometers south of Paris in the department of Essonne in the region Île-de-France .

Shared areas transmitted between illustrious families, Viry-sur-Orge, the agricultural town on the road from Paris to Fontainebleau and Châtillon-sur-Seine, a village on the river merged in 1790. With the xix th century the Viry-Châtillon station on the new line from Villeneuve-Saint-Georges to Montargis , the town hosted in 1909 the first organized aerodrome in the world. If it will not last beyond the First World War, it allowed the fame of the town, which also experienced significant demographic development from the 1920s with the subdivisionof the alluvial plain , carried by the major axis constituted by the national road 7 . This development continued in the 1960s with the construction of the large complexes of La Grande Borne , Coteaux de l'Orge and Cilof along the recent A6 motorway. The town is now known to host the engine department of the Renault Sport racing team .
