Red - Calliope Mori [Piano Cover]

Red is actually the first song from hololive that I ever listened to. I think when it popped up in my recommendations, I listened to it once, thought to myself "yeah this is neat" and moved on. And then it popped up in my recommendation again. And since I didn't have much to do, I listened to it again. And then again, and again, and as I paid attention to the song more I started to realize how cool of a song it actually was.

First, the style of it all was unique, something I personally had never listened to before. The rap part was a bit strange to think about in terms of putting it on the piano, but I thought some rapid repeating notes would fit the mood well, and I feel they did the job. Followed by a quick run, and the transition was done! Then I treated the rest of the song like an anime op, giving a pause beforehand, and octave gliss into the final chorus, and runs in between the melody line to finish it off.

As for recording, I cannot possibly express the amount of frustration that went into this. I probably recorded about 300+ takes, which were all scrapped due to various inconsistencies and screwups (save for two, one of them I accidentally deleted the file for because I was too used to scrapping the bad takes my hand moved on its own lololol). Additionally, I didn't think it was that difficult to play, and I could play it pretty easily during practice. Sometimes I questioned if I was getting worse. But then again, I suppose grinding takes for hours tends to take its toll on someone.

All in all, I'm both disappointed and relieved at the same time. Watching a lot of other pianists make lowkey-perfect covers also kind of lowers my self-esteem because, for a time, I figured I could do the same. But alas, I shouldn't be comparing myself to others, and if I have something I'm frustrated about, that just means I have to work that much harder to achieve what it is I want.

Anyway, this was loads of fun to arrange, play, and edit. There were a lot of interesting ideas that I got to mess around with. I don't really know how to arrange which is why I'm kind of hesitant to try, but I hope to improve over the year.

I will release sheet music if people ask for it.
