Expatriates from Bengal planted the seeds of nationalism, awakened Hindu political awareness, and were instrumental in the origin, growth, and spread of Hindi and Hindu nationalism in India. Beginning in Bihar, the Hindi language movement was pioneered by educationists and linguists like Bhudeb Mukhopadhyay, Radhika Prosunno Mukherjea, and Rajendralal Mitra, and through their efforts that the Devnagari script first got recognised as the official script for Hindi in 1881. The Hindi language was spread by Bengali nationalists to other regions like United Provinces, Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Punjab. It is a bit rich coming from Hindi speakers what the patriotism of Bengalis and their fidelity to Hindu dharma should have been based on, judging them on their efforts to learn Hindi. Not to mention this view is entirely anachronistic, considering the state and status of the Hindi language in the period in question. The video deconstructs another one of the ill-founded fulminations against Subhas Chandra Bose on the issue of language.
