Hello everyone! We're reviewing the French *AMX-40 MBT* at 9.7 BR. Previously plagued by high modification costs and lacking a proper lineup, this tank is now in a much better, more playable position, thanks to new additions in the French tech tree!

Why the AMX-40 is Now Playable:
*The Coaxial 20mm Cannon:* The most unique feature is the *20mm F2 automatic cannon* [00:02:02], which fires HEI/HVAP (up to ~60mm pen). This is incredible for tracking targets, destroying light vehicles from the side, and even defending against helicopters due to its great elevation [00:08:40].
*Great Mobility:* The AMX-40 has excellent acceleration and a good transmission for a 40-ton MBT, allowing it to keep up with faster tanks and quickly reposition after a shot [00:02:36].
*French 9.7 Lineup:* The biggest change is the new support! You can now run the AMX-40 with the AMX-32 105, **Vextra 105**, and the Santal/Roland SAMs [00:07:14].

The Painful Drawbacks:
*The HEAT-FS Grind:* You must still grind through *HEAT-FS* before unlocking the useful *OFL 120 G1 APFSDS* at Rank 3 [00:02:55].
*No Armor:* The armor is non-existent. You are extremely vulnerable to incoming autocannon fire (from vehicles like the 2S38 or Puma) straight through the turret front [00:06:10].
*Thermals:* It only has Gen 1 Gunner Thermals, which are not very effective in the current meta [00:04:36].

Despite the flaws, the AMX-40 is finally a worthwhile vehicle to own and a solid addition to the French top-tier grind. Our spading effort resulted in *97 battles, 151 ground kills, and 77 deaths* [00:08:15].
