Composer, pianist and conductor George Gershwin (1898 - 1937) wrote this great tune for the opera 'Porgy & Bess'. The lyrics are by DuBose Heyward. Originally an aria, SUMMERTIME became one oft he most played/covered jazz standards of all time. The simple melody is build on the notes of the A minor-pentatonic scale (plus an occasional b).
