No-Miss meaning no lives lost.

Turn on subtitles for some extra comments.

2nd loop: 18:03

R-Type is one of the most iconic shmups out there, first released in the arcades in 1987 and profoundly influenced later shooting games with its charge shots, unique weaponry, and grotesque enemies.

However like any old shmup, picking up the wrong powerups is about as deadly as getting hit by bullets.

The trick to playing the game is to make clever use of the force to deal with every situation. You can make it shoot behind you as well as make it move on its own. It can block bullets and do damage to enemies as well. Bits are very important as well. These work like options and can also do damage.
Having a force plus two bits gives you quite a bit of coverage. You're still completely vulnerable from behind so you have to be careful of that.

It's pretty much impossible to recover from a death unless you know exactly what you're doing for every checkpoint in the game, which I didn't feel like doing. Furthermore stage 8 without bits is really not very doable and bit drops are super rare.

The 2nd loop increases enemy aggressiveness and their rate of fire. Furthermore the amount of health enemies and bosses have, is increased significantly which can be a pain sometimes.

That being said I don't think the 2nd loop is that huge a difference from loop 1 in this game. R-Type II had a much bigger difference between loops and was also a lot harder. Apparently R-Type II is the hardest game in the series and I cleared that first. So now everything else is easy by comparison. This took about two days to clear.
