An Epstein tester, also known as an Epstein bridge, is used to measure the magnetic properties of various materials. The device consists of four loops of coiled wire, and we stack sheared pieces of material in both the grain and transverse directions, alternating between them to ensure everything is seated correctly. We input certain parameters such as magnetic flux density, frequency, power, and current, and measure the power and current received to determine the material's core loss permeability and other magnetic properties. We can test at different frequencies and magnetic flux densities, and in this test, we use the standard 15 kilogauss. Once the test is complete, we look at the watts per pound core loss and various permeability numbers.
