Over the past couple of years you all have probably noticed that I stopped recording on the base. I used to record there pretty frequently with my grandfather. In 2018 the base began to shorten it's testing scheme from the 20-30-20 second runs of alert with voice to a 5-5-5 second run. Eventually they switched to doing a noon blast, which basically made the system into a voice capable version of the one in Russell County, AL.

I'd been meaning to record this siren for a few years. My grandfather and I attempted to record it a few years ago after it was first installed, making it the newest siren in the system. It was inactive at the time. Unfortunately I waited too long and never got a chance to see it do the bigger test. We also never got a chance to hear it run together; he fell ill and passed away in 2018. My grandmother still is able to get on the base, so I figured I'd record this one. Petty much every siren with the exception of four have been recorded here. Three are in areas I can't really access, and one is in an unknown location that I haven't been able to find and add to my map.

Ft. Benning's giant voice system consists of 19 Whelen WPS-2900 series sirens, mostly 2909's with a couple 2905's and a single 2902, and tests every Saturday at noon with Columbus-Muscogee County and Russell County. These replaced a system of Tyco ClearWarning PA's that supplemented a system of Federal Signal 2001-SRN2 AC/DC's and Modulator 2008's. The 2001's are tower mounted and replaced what I believe to have been FS 500-SHTT's. My grandparents have said that the one by their old house when they were stationed there sounded a lot like a Thunderbolt 1000T, so they possibly could have been 10/12 port.
