The Runaways were an all female, American band founded by Joan Jett in the 70s. The song “Cherry Bomb” was released as a single in 1976 and went to number 1 in Japan. Joan Jett later went on to form a band with the Blackhearts. I remember in 1982 when Joan Jett & the Blackhearts were performing at The Police Picnic in Toronto. When she first came out on stage, the raucous crowd were heckling and booing her. They even threw rubber chickens at her. When she left the stage she left more than a few people impressed with her rockin’ performance! Along with this great song are some vintage images of Joan Jett.
