Visitors at Chester Zoo have been able to get their first glimpse of a rare baby spider monkey.

The Colombian black-headed spider monkey called Olive arrived into the world on December 1 last year. New images and video footage show the newborn monkey out for the first time with her mum, Kiara.

The highly threatened primate is vulnerable to extinction in the wild, with more than 80% of its population having been lost in the last 50 years. Mark Brayshaw, head of mammals at the conservation zoo, said the arrival brings fresh hope to the species.
