Learn how to build a simple, persistent To-Do List app for free with AI!
In this tutorial, I walk you through the entire process of using AI to generate a working web app in VSCode. We start by using the prompt we crafted earlier in the OpenAI Playground, which guides Gemini Code Assist to create the full HTML, CSS, and JavaScript files for a basic To-Do List.

Here’s the prompt we used:
"Build a tiny, front-end only To-Do List web app named 'Tiny To-Do List' using plain HTML, CSS, and JavaScript (no frameworks). The app must be deployable as static files and run entirely in the browser. Data should persist using localStorage. Include an input for new tasks, a task list with toggle and delete options, filtering by status, and a task counter. Add accessibility features and minimal styling."

After generating the code, we test the app and realize that the list isn’t saved after a page refresh. So, we go back to the AI with an updated prompt, asking it to add persistence. The AI then modifies the code to store tasks in localStorage. We test again, and now the app retains your tasks after reloading!

Finally, I share our next step: deploying this app on Heroku and integrating it into our web app platform, Unlocking AI.
