Pixie arrived at our shelter with twisted limbs and an inability to walk or stand. Each time she tried to move, even wiggle, she yelped out in pain, clearly struggling and deeply confused. Urgently, we took her to an orthopedic specialist to understand how we could best help her. It was decided that the best course of action would be to administer X-rays. The results, however, were bizarre, leaving everyone absolutely dumbfounded. This little dog is missing bones and growth plates in all four of her limbs, making her unique situation both perplexing and alarming.

The specialist described Pixie as 'a hot mess,' admitting that he had never encountered such a case. Unfortunately, he felt unprepared to take on such a complex medical challenge due to its rarities. But a flicker of hope arrived when they remembered a specialized orthopedic doctor from Tennessee who had recently visited and had experience with dogs with cases similar to Pixie's. Pending a review of her X-rays, he expressed interest in evaluating Pixie in hopes that he might be able to help her.

Currently, every option is being meticulously explored to find the best possible course of action for little Pixie. She has been trying her best to stand on her hind legs, doing what she can to push through her struggles. One potential consideration we’ve discussed is amputating her immobile front legs and providing her with wheels to use.
