Competitive Singles was changed forever when the Steel type released in Generation 2.

Ever since it's Debut game, Steel has been an elite type in Competitive Pokemon. Starting off with an unbelievable 11 resistances and crucial immunities to Poison and Sandstorm damage.

In Gen 6 Steel types were altered slightly, losing their resistance to Ghost and Dark, gaining a Fairy resistance and also hitting Fairy super effectively.

Despite slight nerfs this was a Net gain and Steel persisted as one of the most common types at High level.
