Bait is a hot button topic in the catfishing world. Most everything has been tried, and the list of baits that have totally failed to attract the attention of at least an occasional desperately hungry catfish is very short. It's true that catfish can be enticed to eat almost anything. However, my experience has shown that fresh fish (both alive and cut) outperform all else. Crappie is high on my list of preferred catfish baits for its availability and predictability. Time it right and you can fill a cooler with these guys, no problem. Bonus: The catfish love them! Be sure to consult your state and local fishing regulations to ensure the legally of whatever bait you choose to use. What works best on your water may be a little different, but if I'm venturing a guess, fresh fish is a catfish favorite where you live, too.
