Описание к видео Strain relief bushing for electrical cords - removal and reinstallation

Teaches you how to remove and reinstall cable strain reliefs.

I couldn't find any videos on how to deal with these things so I just figured it out by trial and error. After I got it put back together, I figured it would be a good idea to make a video. I tried to give people as much information as I could so you could adapt it to your situation, but that made the video longer than it could be.

The basic technique: Open the unit. From the INSIDE, compress the bushing to cause it to have a smaller diameter using the heaviest pliers you can fit. The bushing is soft and flexible, so compressing in one dimension will elongate it in the other, so compress to a smaller diameter it at the 6 oclock and 12 oclock position and then change the orientation of the heavy duty needle nose pliers to compress it at the 2 oclock and 8 oclock position, and then 4 and 10oclock. You can use a flashlight from one side and look at the other side to see where the light is most blocked and compress that part more.

From the outside compress it too at various positions, and then use a set of European end cutting pliers that can grab the outside and pull, rocking it slightly. Try to compress it and pull inside of the same 60 seconds, or it will uncompress. I destroyed the old one getting it out. You can find them on ebay or amazon, measured in inches, either for flat or round cables.

Take the wire out and splice it back in electrically.

Putting a new one back in is easy because you can use slip joint pliers to compress it. Face the smaller side towards the inside from the outside and compress the smaller side first, then compress the larger side, angle it to push the loop in first and then rock the bushing back and forth as you press it in until it clicks into place.

Yes, I know I didn't show the technique: I've only done it once and it took an hour to figure out, and I didn't need the additional complexity of a video to get in my way. Yes, I know I explained it using more words than I needed, but I tried to explain everything to allow you to adapt what I said to your situation. At least I was nice enough to post this after i had completely solved my problem and only did this to help others. Sorry if I didn't do it perfectly for your situation. I'm sort of amazed that after I did all the work of explaining it in a video that I did only for your benefit, that people would complain.
