Karachi Municipal Corporation (KMC) has held BRT construction authorities and the private store management responsible for the death of a child who fell into an open manhole near Nipa Flyover. The incident occurred in Gulshan-e-Iqbal Town, in front of a private store. Senior Director of Municipal Services, Imran Rajput, reported that under the Mayor’s orders, the child’s body was recovered from a nearby drain. The investigation revealed that the BRT excavation severely damaged the drainage system, and temporary two-foot covers were improperly placed over the manholes. The report highlighted that the open manhole, created by the Red Line project, was the main cause of the accident. The BRT authorities did not notify KMC before starting work, and combined negligence with the store management led to the tragedy. The report confirms that the excavated areas have now been properly covered under official supervision.
