Alexandre Pierre François Boëly (1785-1858) was one of these composers that loved so much the music of the past. He was much more interested in the music written by composers like Rameau, Haendel or Bach that in the composed by Beethoven, Schubert, Chopin or Schumann (he lived over all of them).

His style, however, has something of classical (specially Clementi or Mozart) but some of his chord progressions or the piano effects are telling us about romantic music (even a little bit).

I bring to you all this little piano piece: the caprice (or étude) op. 2 nº 1, written in 1817: the year of the first polonaises by Chopin (aged 7) , the great operas La Gazza Ladra and La Cenerentola by Rossini or the notable lieder by Schubert: Ganymed, Der Tod und das Mädchen or An die Musik.

The difficulties of that piece are the jumps in the left hand os the main theme, the plaqué style and the almost organ-like precision of the fingering in both hands. I hope you like it :P
