We begin by stating the superposition principle for electric fields: to find the electric field from two source charges, we have to add the electric field contributions from each source charge vectorially.

Next, we work an example with two micro-coulomb source charges in a dipole configuration and compute the vector sum of the electric field contributions at two different points using the equation for the electric field of a point charge and trigonometry to determine the magnitude and direction of each contribution.

Finally, we sketch the electric dipole field for two opposite charges qualitatively by using the superposition principle.
