Santa's Got A Brand New Bag by Bear Ghost

For reasons that aren't clear to me, the SHeDAISY Christmas album was a holiday staple in my household growing up. What's not to love about a Dixie Chicks knockoff performing complete re-imaginings of Christmas classics? You say you've always wanted a version of "Deck the Halls" with sitar, a Dust Brothers rhythm, and meterless vocals stacked in phat harmonies? Boom, track 1, baby. You always wanted to hear a "Hark, the Herold Angels Sing" and "Carol of the Bells" mashup with a sick climax featuring a C-List Kid Rock 'rapping' the lyrics, "Merry merry merry Christmas, can I get a get a get a witness," over an epic string section and some absolute bonkers drum shedding? Well, put on your bib, because Baby Boulder is here to spoon feed you your heart's desires!

This song, "Santa's Got a Brand New Bag," was an original on the record and was a stand out, in my opinion. I always loved the precision 3 part harmony in the chorus, and the manic sax solo in the bridge, so I thought maybe I'd give at least one of those highlights a try in our version. But you know what else I love? Not making money. So to ensure that I'd never see a penny and my child will continue to go hungry, we threw in parts from other Christmas mainstays ("Santa Baby" and "Kidnap the Sandy Claws") to utterly muddy the original meaning of the song entirely. In Bear Ghost fashion, it's now 60% creepier, and hopefully 100% more fun. Merry Christmas, boogers!
