February 2016 Free Wednesday at the UC Botanical Garden, Berkeley was a misty overcast day but my umbrella was mostly just another annoying thing to carry. While many of the plants were devoid of blossoms and even leaves, the lovely stream-fed Japanese pool was practically rambunctious with scores and scores of California Newts (Taricha torosa) intent on the survival of their species. I managed to capture some fairly okay footage of these odd beasts...with their unusual and enchanting blue eyed stares. Though frankly when it comes to romance, a visit to the pond makes me grateful to be a higher social being with a vocabulary including the word "No." The background music is
