Snow, Rain and Damaging Winds - Creating a cozy winter camp in the New Zealand mountains

I love camping in the rain, but winter camping in the rain has it's challenges. This camp had snow on the ground, sleet, heavy rain, and strong winds. None the less it was beautiful, moody and exciting. I love to share the experience of camping in the elements and encourage others to get out into the outdoors no matter what the weather throws at you. My sister joined me for this trip into the mountains in the south island of New Zealand.
We had to hunker down under the trees to shelter from the wind, rain and sleet, but we got a roaring campfire going to warm us and cook our dinner. I challenged myself by not bringing a cooker, so it was campfire cooking only. That was to come back and bite me when, in the early hours of the morning, the high winds destroyed my tarp and left us with wet wood and no cover.
This was an eventful trip, with great company and beautiful scenery. I hope you will enjoy it.
