Hannah Welch, Marine Affairs ’21, shows off the “smart baby blanket” she developed in the UNE Makerspace. The smart blanket calibrates the level of heat needed by each individual infant. An automated healthcare plan for that infant is generated through this design.

The P.D. Merrill Makerspace on the University of New England’s Biddeford, Maine campus is a laboratory for student creation and building. The Makerspace offers state-of-the-art equipment for academic/team projects as well as personal projects. Equipment includes 3-D printers, CNC machines, design software, wood shop tools and much more.
