Este acabado tiene como ventaja principal que no se absorbe por la madera sino que descansa sobre ella lo que permite que el sonido del instrumento no se vea afectado. Debido a esta cualidad el pulido francés es muy empleado en instrumentos de gran calidad, además de que es estéticamente muy apreciado debido a su brillo espejo.

The main advantage of this finish is that it is not absorbed by the wood but rests on it, which means that the sound of the instrument is not affected. Due to this quality, French polishing is widely used in high quality instruments, in addition to being aesthetically highly appreciated due to its mirror shine.

As a disadvantage, this finish suffers from being very brittle and susceptible to scratches, solvents and heat.
