The Supreme Court is set to deliver its verdict on 21 petitions challenging the constitutional validity of the WAQF Act 2025. A bench comprising Chief Justice of India, B. R. Gawai, and Justice A. G. Massey had reserved its decision four months ago. The petitions challenge the sweeping changes made to the WAF law by amendments passed by Parliament in 2025. The court identified three primary issues for consideration based on the petitioners' arguments. These include the power to denotify properties that have been declared as WAF by courts or through usage. Another key issue raised is the composition of state WAF courts. The third point of contention relates to a provision where a state's WAF property will not be treated as such if a collector's inquiry ascertains it is government land. The verdict will address these fundamental challenges to the amended law.
