RESIDENCY RESTRICTIONS FOR SEX OFFENDERS
Convicted sex offenders in Nevada have certain residency restrictions and requirements they must abide by or face prosecution. Here are five things to know:
1) Convicted sex offenders in Nevada are required to register with the local law enforcement agency within 48 hours of moving to a new address.
2) Offenders who are homeless or have no fixed residence must notify local law enforcement every 30 days of where they are sleeping.
3) A first offense of failing to register a new address with law enforcement is a category D felony, carrying one to four years in prison and possibly up to $5,000 in fines. And a subsequent offense in a seven-year period is a category C felony, carrying one to five years in prison and possibly up to $10,000 in fines.
4) Convicted sex offenders who are on probation may reside only at locations approved by their parole and probation officer. And they cannot live with more than three other former prisoners unless the location is a licensed transitional living facility.
5) Tier 3 sex offenders who are on probation and who have been convicted of sex crimes against children under 14 may not live within 1,000 feet of places designed primarily for use by or for children, such as schools, daycares, school bus stops, arcades, parks, or movie theaters.
