The cosy village of Tealby which is around 20 miles from the city of Lincoln was once a large settlement in early medieval documentation and it is recorded in the Domesday Book as 'Tevelsby' although the name is probably derived from the East Germanic tribal-name 'Taifali' and the Old Danish word 'by'. Detachments of the Taifali are recorded in Britain in the early 5th century.

Tealby sits within the nationally protected Lincolnshire Wolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). Designated in 1973 the AONB covers 216 square miles and includes rolling hills, hidden valleys, gentle streams and nestling villages.

It is hard to talk about Tealby without mentioning the Tennyson family. The Memorial Hall which now serves as a local village community hall was gifted to the village by the Tennyson D'Eyncourt family as memorial to the family members who died during the First World War.

The poet laureate Lord Alfred Tennyson's grandfather George Tennyson once owned a third of the land around Tealby.

Watermill House was once a water-driven corn mill before it was converted into a house and the mill race still remains running through.

The Vicarage which is the first house on the corner of Caistor Lane dates to the late 1700s and was constructed in the local ironstone.

The Old Butcher's Shop on Front Street was built around 1850 and is now a bridalwear shop called Willow & Lace.

The village had two pubs; the thatched King's Arms believed to be the oldest thatched pub in the county and dates back to 1367. The old Crown Inn in Front Street ceased trading in 1956 and is now a house.

One of the first things that is striking about the Church is that it is also made of the local limestone. It dates from the 12th century, with alterations in the 13th, early 14th, 15th and 16th centuries. Some architectural features of the church suggest there may well have been an even older church on the spot before the 12th century, perhaps made of wood.

Tealby school was built in a Gothic design in 1857, with a hammer beam roof modelled on Westminster Hall. It was paid for by Charles Tennyson d'Eyncourt. A major fire in 1889 caused much damage to the school, however it was quickly repaired.
