‘A History of Terror’ is an award-winning Belfast city centre walking tour explaining the history of the Troubles in Northern Ireland and the path to peace and reconciliation.

Starting at our City Hall (   • City Hall Belfast - A Glimpse Inside this ...  ), the tour visits 8 sites in the city centre where some of the most tragic events of the conflict occurred. It lets you explore and understand the most turbulent period in Belfast’s recent past and what it was like to live here during the Troubles.

As you walk through the Cathedral Quarter (   • Cathedral Quarter Belfast - Murals and Art...  ) and arrive on the banks of the River Lagan, our guides will also explain our peace-building process and demonstrate the reconciliation and regeneration which has taken place in the city since the ceasefires 20 years ago.

The tour is recognised as being balanced, objective and historically accurate. It is unbiased and suitable for all visitors to Belfast, regardless of how much or little they already know of our troubled past.

The tour normally runs once per day at 10:30, except on Saturdays, when the start time is 14:00. It lasts approximately 2 to 2½ hours and covers 2 miles. The meeting point is the front gates of Belfast City Hall. Advance booking is essential to ensure a tour is running and available on your chosen day.

Recommended age for the tour is 12 years +.
The tour is currently only available in English.

People might be used to the historical tours across the ruins and the old buildings which might tell them more about the city and the tragedies or troubles it has gone through but some of them might not be used to the idea of walking in the city center of a specific city and get lots of information about the times of troubles which the city has gone through; giving the people a clear view about the place and the things it has seen and witnessed.

It really feels interesting to walk through one of the busiest cities in Europe today and listen to all the stories related to the troubles and problems it has gone through before and then compare it to what you are viewing at the moment while walking through the city center, but you will eventually receive this good feeling that the city managed to come to this point at the end.

One of the problems of this walking tour and which you might have to deal with in Northern Ireland in general is the weather - you might end up walking in the rain - so at this point you will need to tolerate the rain while at the same time listen to what the tour guide is trying to share and explain.
