All you need is a glass of water, a plastic bag, and your creativity to make a drawing disappear before your eyes! ✨ Learn how to do this experiment below 👇

What you need:
Paper
Sharpie
Plastic bag
Glass of water
Coloring supplies (markers, colored pencils, crayons)

How to make your drawing disappear:
Cut a piece of paper so it can snugly fit inside a plastic bag.
Draw a picture on the piece of paper - make sure to color it in!
Slip it inside the plastic bag, and use a permanent marker to outline any details on the bag that you’d like to be visible once it has been submerged in water.
Dip your picture in water and watch the magic happen!

What’s going on?
In air, light is not refracted and the details on both the bag and the paper are visible. But all of this changes when your picture is placed in the water! Underwater, the light that refracts through both the water and the bag does not reach your eyes, which are nearly directly above the drawing, making it vanish compared to the details drawn on the outside of the bag. Those details are still visible because the light is not completely refracted away from your eyes through just water.
