It has been institutionalized contrary to Scriptural belief that the tithes, being under the so-called Law of Moses, was done away with and that the New Covenant Christian are not required by instruction of the Scriptures to giving a tithe. Many Christians base their reason for not tithing on the New Testament emphasizing generous giving in comparison to tithing.
