Sanjay sinha’s conversation with film actor Tej sapru

We can think of so many actors,but some among them deserve special mention,Tej sapru is one such indivisual during his long film career.Tej sapru has acted in almost 275 Hindi andi Punjabi films.He has a wealth of experience of working with both established as well as new comers.He is still going strong,Sanjay sinha had a chat with him on various issues.Here are the excerpts-





-It can well be said that acting is in your blood,it runs in your family.But still one has to learn.You have seen your father D.KSapru,mother Hemvati and your sisters and must have picked uplots of points.So tells us about your beginning.



Ans.-(Smiling) I was brought up in an environment where acting was a part of our lives.Right from my childhood I used to listen to the stories of shooting and film making.I started off as a child artist.Manoj kumar was producing a film on Shaheed Bhagat singh ,where my father D.K.Sapru played the role of Bhagat singh’s father and Kamini kaushal become his mother.There was a scene in the movie ,where ,before Bhagat singh was hanged,his entire family came to meet him.Among his family members,there was his younger brother,whome ,Bhagat singh loved a lot.As there was no one to play the role of that kid,Manoj kumar selected me.Even through I was very young,I worked very hard as I released the importance of that scene.Even today whenever I meet Manoj sahib,he reminds me that I began my career with him.

‘Suraksha’ was my first film as a hero,Mithun chakrabarty was my co-actor.I never looked back after this beginning.Let me tell you one thing,apart from acting I was also interested in sports.I played for the Mumbai(Then Bombay0 cricket team along with Sandip patil.I used to work in a bank to make sure I wasn’t dependent on my father.But gradually I became busy in films.



-Acting is such a difficult craft,even though acting runs in your genes,still,you must have had to learn the nuances of acting.Tell us something about that experience.



Ans.-You are right,acting is not as easy as people make it out to be.Biggest advantage I had ,my father often took me to the sets,so I learnt a lot through observation.I was always interested in knowing the minute details,so learning through observation came naturaly to me but to be honest,I am still learning.No actor is ever complete,he has to keep on learning,which I am doing till now.My father was a renowned actor,yet he never recommended my name to anyone.That’s I had to go through innumerable auditions and screen tests.Only then that I became successful.My father always wanted me to make a name for myself on my own.



-You have seen many eras of this industry.What are the differences you find from the days you started and now?



Ans.-I have indeed seen many eras,every era taught me a great deal,made me more confident.But one thing I would like to mention here in the days gone by,there was a special feelings of togetherness among actors.Senior actors always tried to guide the juniors.Today ,things are a bit different.Earliar when we used to go for outdoor shoots,whole atmosphere used to be special.Everyone thinks himself to be a star.Today’s big stars don’t show the kind of affection to their juniors that earliar stars did.Proffesioalism is a good thing,but so is the sense of togetherness.Music has lost its earliar melody and rivalry today has sank to abysmal levels whearas earliar it was healthy competition.



-Right,but don’t you think,senior actors like you must take it upon yourselves to change the situation?



Ans.-I am trying my best .But it will need a consolidated effort from everyone.



-Your acting career has spanned over almost 39 years.What’ next?In Direction your next aim?



Ans.-I can never leave acting.As long as my health permits me,I would like to continue.In fact I wish to complete 50 years of my acting career.But yes,I do want to move onto direction.In fact I have a script ready with me for a long time,but due to my busy schedule I wasn’t able to manage so far.The script is a fine lovestory,probably one of the finest .But now I intend to start working on it and I would like to direct it myself.
