Sailing Pamlico Sound and Running Aground 5 times in One Day ~ w Mary Beth and Stephen ~ Ep 122

Yep, we ran aground 5 times in one day! Sailing Pamlico Sound is beautiful, except when you get close to Roanoke Island. The channel gets REALLY narrow and takes lots of concentration to navigate through...and that's where we grounded 5 times within a few hours.

Once we were anchored and felt safe, we had a fun day exploring the town and came back to our boat being grounded.

We tried and tried to get unstuck, by revving the engine, trying to make a groove in the ground with our keel, and even putting our sails up hoping the force of the wind would push us off the ground.

But Harmony wasn't budging. She felt safe and sound on top of that land.

The dock master, having seen our boat drift into the shallows and watching us try to get off, came out with his friends in his skiff to pull us out. Even though they tried for about an hour, they couldn't get our boat to budge either.

A few hours later, BoatTowUS was able to pull us out!

If it weren't for the new friends we made, Wes, the dockmaster, his wife Nikki, and their friend Tim, we probably wouldn't have stayed in Manteo as long as we did. We met up with them a few nights later for drinks, hamburgers, and onion rings on their beautiful boat, and then took a ride on their skiff through the narrow waterways of the neighboring communities.

Has this happened to you? Has a stranger ever come to your rescue and then became good friends?
