For quite some time, there’s been very few brands producing proper mountain bikes for kids and here Marin has made a big move to make up for that.

As a mountain biker, you probably know there’s nothing quite like the feeling of flowing singletrack, working in tandem with your bike as you float from berm to berm. Now, imagine you are a child on the same track - yet the bike you are riding is as heavy as your body weight, it's super twitchy at speed and working against you. This is a typical child's experience.
You see your first experience is lasting, and providing children with a bike that is stable, easy to maneuver, durable, and most importantly fun will ensure years of enjoyment to come.

Well, are pleased to announce that Marin has released the Marin San Quentin 20 and 24in trail hardtails that do just this.

The San Quentin is Marin’s aggressive trail hardtail, which was designed in collaboration with slopestyle legend Matt Jones. The San Quentin 20 and 24in takes everything that makes the adult version of the bike great and puts it into a kids-sized package. One of the biggest differences you will notice compared to other kids' mountain bikes is that the frame was designed to be ridden on the trails, and that’s reflected in the geometry of the bikes. All the modern trends are accounted for with a super stable 65-degree head angle, steep 75-degree seat angle to help on the climbs and roomy reach with a short stem. While the lightweight alloy frame and low standover make the bike easy to maneuver on the trail. The spec of the bikes also includes parts specifically designed for modern biking, including a clutch, equipped 1x drivetrain for uncomplicated yet wide-range drivetrain. Hydraulic disc brakes for incredible stopping power and modulation and wide 2.6 in tyres, which offer plenty of traction and comfort over rough terrain.

There are two sizes in the San Quentin Jr range, the 20 and 24in, both with different components to suit the needs of progressing riders as they grow older. The San Quentin 20 features a Suntour XCM fork with 80mm of travel as well as the desirable microshift acolyte 8-speed drivetrain, which is not only simple and offers great range but impressive chain retention over rough terrain. The San Quentin 24 steps things up a notch including 100mm of air-sprung suspension courtesy of the RockShox Judy Silver, which not only provides improved support, it allows you to dial in the appropriate air pressure to suit the rider's weight as they grow. You also get improved stopping power courtesy of Shimano brakes and the wider range microshift advent 9-speed drivetrain.

Overall the Marin San Quentin Jr range are the bikes we wished we had when we started mountain biking. It’s great to see there is now a bike that won't hinder a child's progress on the trails but enhance it.
