Filmed in the Black Forest (Schwarzwald), near Freiburg, on a cold winter night.

On a foggy morning, we set out for an overnight hike through the Black Forest. The snow we had hoped for had already melted after a few unusually warm days. Step by step we moved through mist, climbing higher until we finally broke out of the fog, into clear sunlight, with clouds stretching right below us.

We set up camp on a ridge overlooking the Rhine Valley and Alsace in France. As temperatures dropped, we prepared the cabin, chopped wood, and lit a fire to carry us through the long winter night.

The sunset above the clouds changed the mood of the mountains — quiet, wide, and dreamlike in its winter stillness.

A night of cold air, warm fire, and the mystical atmosphere of the Black Forest.
