Hongqi, a prominent Chinese automotive brand, is making waves with the launch of its latest electric vehicle, the Tiangong 05. Instead, the Tiangong 05 enters the highly competitive compact electric vehicle segment, sporting similar dimensions to the Hyundai Ioniq 6 and just slightly larger than the Tesla Model 3. The Tiangong 05 is part of Hongqi’s new Tiangong series, which also includes the Tiangong 08 SUV. Additionally, the car is equipped with a single electric motor positioned at the rear wheels, producing 281 horsepower, which should provide enough power for most daily driving needs.

Although Hongqi has yet to release official photos of the Tiangong 05’s interior, spy shots have given us a glimpse of what to expect. The cabin appears to feature a large central infotainment screen, dominating the dashboard and offering modern functionality. The car also adopts a two-spoke flat-bottomed steering wheel, enhancing its contemporary and sporty appeal. The absence of a traditional gauge cluster is a nod to Tesla’s minimalist approach, with the car instead featuring a massive 65-inch head-up display. For added convenience, the Tiangong 05 includes a 50-watt wireless charging pad and cupholders, ensuring drivers and passengers enjoy a comfortable and connected ride.

Although pricing details for the Tiangong 05 have not yet been announced, it’s expected to be much more affordable in China compared to similar electric vehicles in markets like the US. As demand for electric vehicles continues to rise, particularly in China, the Tiangong 05’s competitive pricing combined with its impressive range and stylish features could make it a strong contender in the electric sedan market.

The Tiangong 05 represents Hongqi’s continued push into the electric vehicle space, and while its availability may be limited to Asia for now, it’s clear that the company is aiming to establish itself as a serious player in the growing EV market.
