Dr. Florence Becot – National Farm Medicine Center

Florence Becot is a rural sociologist who recently joined the National Farm Medicine Center in Marshfield as an associate research scientist. Florence’s research and extension program is focused on the health, quality of life, and economic opportunities for farm families in the US and France. Recent work includes farmers’ access to health care and health insurance and mental health. Florence earned her PhD from the Ohio State University and was previously a researcher at the University of Vermont Center for Rural Studies.

Maria Pippidis, University of Delaware Cooperative Extension, Family and Consumer Science Extension Educator/ County Director

Maria Pippidis has worked for the University of Delaware Cooperative Extension since 1992 and conducts workshops on Financial Management, Health Insurance Literacy, and Personal Development. More recently she has worked on initiatives that have focused on Farm and Farm Family Resilience and Farm Stress. She is part of the Health Insurance Literacy Initiative team that includes representatives from University of Maryland Extension and University of Delaware Cooperative Extension. With this team, she develops health insurance literacy educational materials and presents consumer and professional development workshops using the Smart Choice™ and Smart Use™ Health Insurance materials. She earned her master’s degree in Family Resource Management and Consumer Economics from Cornell University and a bachelor’s from University of Delaware in Consumer Economics. She is an Accredited Financial Counselor® and Financial Fitness Coach®.
