Garmin just made it easier to manage your inReach subscription if you're not using it year-round. In this quick update, I go over the new suspend feature that lets you pause your inReach plan for up to 12 months without any charges. Before this change, you had to either cancel and pay a reactivation fee later or stay on a paid plan even when you didn’t need the service.

If you're only using your inReach during hiking season or summer trips, this is a great option. Keep in mind that while your device is suspended, all satellite features like SOS, check-ins, weather, and location sharing are turned off. However, you can still use any non-satellite functions—like GPS navigation—depending on the model you have, like the GPSMAP 67i.

I also talk about the lesser-known "enabled" plan, which used to be hidden on Garmin’s site but is now officially available. This plan keeps SOS active for $7.99/month and lets you pay only for the messages or data you use. It can be cheaper than some of the standard plans, depending on how you use your device.
