Head and neck cancers are overwhelmingly linked to environmental causes, most commonly:
• HPV (Human Papillomavirus) infection
• Smoking and tobacco exposure

Because these cancers are driven by external factors rather than inherited genetic faults, family members are not at increased risk, unlike some other cancers such as breast cancer where hereditary factors can play a significant role.
