Our Story:
We bought a large seer fish from the local fish market. In our day-to-day life in Sri Lanka, we usually cook fish as red fish gravy or Ambul Thiyal. However, today, my daughter suggested, "Father, don't cook the fish in the same way; let's try another method to cook seer fish."
First, we cleaned the fish, cut it into thin pieces, and washed it. Next, we added a variety of Sri Lankan spices into a clay bowl and mixed them together. I went to the garden to gather large banana leaves. Our neighbors helped me prepare the banana leaves for cooking. We added the seer fish pieces into the spicy mixture and wrapped them with banana leaves.
We heated the pan and added some coconut oil, then placed the banana-wrapped fish in it and cooked it on low heat. The smell was awesome. We served the banana-wrapped spicy fish with white rice and coconut mallum. The villagers enjoyed their lunch.
