The axe finally fell on Russell Martin last night – and now the hunt is on to see who will be next up in the Ibrox dugout.

The Englishman's status as the club's worst ever manager was rubber-stamped with a dreary draw in Falkirk and, after he had to be snuck out of the stadium into a private car, Andrew Cavenagh finally decided enough was enough.

He'll likely want an ambitious appointment, and quickly, to appease a fan base who will now be directing their fury elsewhere.

The early favourites for the Rangers hot seat include the likes of Steven Gerrard, Kevin Muscat and Sean Dyche but it remains to be seen whether the Ibrox owners will go for another Martin-esque appointment or look further afield.

They'll want it done in time for their clash with Dundee United on October 18 and fans likely won't stand for another long, drawn-out interview process.
