In this talk we examine the role of technology in modern life, highlighting both its benefits and negative consequences, such as mental health issues and societal polarization. The talk explores "healthy" technology use, emphasizing the need to balance its benefits and risks. The introduction of the Digital Maturity Index (DIMI) provides a framework for understanding this balance, rooted in the idea of psychosocial maturity. By showcasing DIMI's application in different European countries, the talk illustrates how digital maturity impacts various aspects of life, from creativity to academic success.
Alvaro Arenas is Professor of Information Systems at E Business School, IE University, in Madrid, Spain. He holds a D.Phil in Computation from Oxford University, UK. His research interests include digital innovation, information security, and the development and usage of computer-based information systems. His research has been published in journals such as the European Journal of Information Systems, Information & Management, Journal of Business Research, and IEEE Computer, among others. Alvaro is very active in the European Research Area, having led several EU-funded projects (eLEAD, GridTrust, CoreGRID, XtreemOS) and acting as scientific advisor for several EU projects. Currently, he is the Principal Investigator for IE of the European project Digymatex, investigating the use of digital technologies by children and teenagers.
