The pier itself is in an extremely poor state of repair as are many of the buildings on the island itself. It has been closed to the public since 1994.

The exception to the general dereliction is the RNLI boathouse, which externally at least, appears to be in good repair. It cannot, however, be used at present because the access to it is unsafe. Weston's lifeboats are stored and launched from near Knightstone and the Marine Lake, around 0.5 miles SE along the coast.

There are long-standing efforts to restore the pier and regenerate the island. Recently it has been announced that the owners have agreed to sell the island and pier to North Somerset Council and that plans are being formulated to make substantial investment and regeneration.
