(2 May 2019) The justice minister in Cyprus resigned Thursday over the bungled police investigation into five women and two girls who were murdered by a serial killer and dumped in a toxic lake.
Critics say the police did little to investigate the disappearances of the victims because they were low-status foreign workers.
The victims included three Filipino women and the six-year-old daughter of one of them.
The others are believed to be a woman from Nepal, and a Romanian woman and her eight-year-old daughter.
Search crews continued to scour the bottom of a poisonous mining lake west of the capital Nicosia in the search for their bodies.
The suspect, a Cypriot army captain, said he dumped three of the victims in the lake after putting their bodies into suitcases.
