Pattie Maes leads the Fluid Interfaces research group at the MIT Media Lab, where she conducts research at the intersection of Human-Computer Interaction and Artificial Intelligence. In this talk, she presents several prototypes and experiments that her group have created which utilize Generative AI (GenAI) in novel ways to create personalized, interactive, and engaging learning experiences. These experiences span various domains, including language learning, critical thinking, public speaking, history, and self-development. She also reviews the results of qualitative and quantitative studies on these systems and their impact on the learning experience and outcomes. This insightful presentation highlights the importance of combined Human+AI systems in enhancing the future impact of this technology.
