Concerns are intensifying over reports that teachers and nurses are working without pay, sparking a national conversation about whether the state is breaking faith with its essential workers. The situation has triggered anger among affected professionals and renewed scrutiny of the government's handling of public sector employment.

The Ministry of Education maintains that there is no intention to make teachers uncomfortable. According to the Ministry’s Media Relations Officer, Hassim Mohammed, some individuals were issued fake appointment letters, and efforts are underway to resolve the matter.

Labour expert Austin Gamey insists that once teachers and nurses are actively working, the state has a clear obligation to pay them, while urging restraint as industrial actions and threats of strikes continue.

On the ground, frustration is growing. Teacher Enoch Paul Ativor says the situation feels like abandonment, adding that unions appear disconnected from the real suffering of affected workers.

Despite the tension, labour leaders say the door remains open for dialogue. Eric Darfour notes that while negotiations with the government are welcome, planned demonstrations by teachers and nurses will still proceed until concrete solutions are delivered.
