Описание к видео Palindromes in English

TRANSCRIPT
Good morning! Happy Monday! Today’s video is on a fun topic of palindromes. What are they? Palindromes are words or phrases that read the same backwards as forwards. They have them in any language, and here are some of the most famous palindromes in English.
First, let’s start with one-word palindromes. There are many of those, among them are: level, civic, kayak, noon, radar, stats, and wow. The longest single-word palindrome in the English language, according to the Oxford English Dictionary, is the word tattarrattat. It refers to a knock on the door.
There are a few multi-word phrases that are palindromes. For example, race car, my gym, top spot, no melon, no lemon and never odd or even.
There are even some complete sentences and even a few questions that are palindromes. Most of them are quite short. Look at some of the fun examples: Don't nod. Step on no pets. Do geese see God? Was it a cat I saw? Madam, I’m Adam.
And then there is the famous ancient “Sator Square”, an artifact that was found in various archaeological sites throughout Europe, including in Pompeii and other Roman ruins. It is a square consisting of five five-letter words that form a perfect palindrome. Each of the five words is written in a square so that they can be read left to right, right to left, top to bottom, and bottom to top. The square is symmetrical and can be rotated 180 degrees and still read the same way in each direction. Amazing! The meaning of the Sator Square is not entirely clear, but it is believed to have been used as a magical or religious talisman in ancient Rome.
I hope this video was of interest to you. Have a wonderful Monday and a great week!
