Barn Find to Fully Restored |1963 Studebaker Avanti Built In Indiana

The history of how the Studebaker Avanti came to be is a fascinating one. Studebaker, an American automobile manufacturer based in South Bend, Indiana, was all ready to close down the factory when they decided to build the Avanti. Studebaker added the Avanti as a "Prestige Car" in their lineup, and it was a Hail Mary attempt to compete with the Chevrolet Corvette, and to get people into the showroom. The Avanti was a completely different, and unexpected car for Studebaker.. Studebaker brought designer Raymond Loewy back to create their new Avanti, which he did in one month. They only had one year to complete the car, because they wanted to make a splash at the 1962 New York Auto Show. They met the deadline, and the brand new Studebaker Avanti made its debut at the 1962 New York Auto Show. Studebaker only produced a few thousand Avantis before they discontinued the line and shut down the factory in South Bend, Indiana. #sportscars #classiccars #americancars

Dave brought his 1963 Studebaker Avanti to the Indianapolis Cars & Coffee at Crosspoint in Indy. His Avanti was a true barn find, having only 200 miles in the course of 20 years. While the exterior is unrestored, the interior had to be refinished. He faithfully brought the interior back to stock, and even found some period-correct items to display. Additionally, he had to give the engine a once-over in order to get it roadworthy. His Avanti was built in South Bend, Indiana, sold in Weirton, West Virginia and found in a barn in Westfield, Indiana. Dave is a wealth of knowledge on the history of Studebaker, and enjoys telling the story of the Avanti.
