Outriders - Pax City - Gameplay Walkthrough - No Commentary

In the canyon, I found writings about the humans' first encounter with August's people, who they called the Pax. Their leader, Monroy, was trying to find a way to combat the Ferals.
Tiago was attacked by monsters and begged August for help. August transformed into a Feral, using an extracted shard from the obelisk, and fought off the monsters. But the rage filled native attacked Tiago, not recognizing friend from foe. I had no choice but to kill August.
The Ferals never attacked the Pax. They were the Pax. But why they did they change?
I've come across a large city that may provide the answers I seek. The signal's source is close.
